Chavinziphius maxillocristatus
Taxonomy
Chavinziphius maxillocristatus was named by Bianucci et al. (2016). Its type specimen is MUSM 2538, a partial skull (incomplete skull lacking most of the rostrum, the ear bones, the teeth, the left mandible, and the anterior portion of the symphyseal region of the right mandib), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Los Quesos, which is in a Messinian lagoonal siltstone in the Pisco Formation of Peru. It is the type species of Chavinziphius.
