Taxonomy
Ganopristis was named by Arambourg (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is the type genus of Ganopristinae.

It was assigned to Ganopristinae by Arambourg (1940); to Galeomorphii by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sclerorhynchidae by Cappetta (1987), Cappetta and Corral (1999), Suárez and Cappetta (2004), Corral et al. (2016), van der Laan (2019).
