Schizorhiza was named by Weiler (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 863,884].

It was assigned to Ganopristinae by Arambourg (1940); to Pristidae by Tabaste (1963); to Galeomorphii by Sepkoski (2002); to Sclerorhynchidae by Cappetta (1987), Suárez and Cappetta (2004), van der Laan (2019); and to Schizorhizinae by Kirkland and Aguillón-Martínez (2002), Guinot et al. (2023).
