Hypolophites was named by Stromer (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant. Its type is Hypolophites myliobatoides.
It was assigned to Hypolophidae by Dartevelle and Casier (1943); to Dasyatidae by Cappetta (1987); to Myliobatiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Myliobatidae by van der Laan (2019).
