Taxonomy
Psammodus was named by Agassiz (1834) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u C Vise Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is the type genus of Psammodontidae.
It was assigned to Psammodontiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Psammodontidae by Woodward (1889), Hay (1902), Jordan (1963), Ingavat and Janvier (1981), Thurmond and Jones (1981) and Nelson (2006).
