Taxonomy

Psephodus was named by Morris and Roberts (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: teeth]. It is not extant. Its type is Cochliodus magnus.

It was assigned to Cochliodontidae by Woodward (1889), Hay (1902), Jordan (1963); to Holocephali by Sepkoski (2002); and to Psephodontidae by Nelson (2006).

Synonyms

Psephodus indicus was named by Waagen (1880). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was considered a nomen vanum by Itano (2022).
Psephodus depressus was named by Waagen (1880). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bilot, crinoidal limestone, Middle Productus-limestone, Khisor Range, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine limestone in the Wargal Formation of Pakistan.

It was considered a nomen vanum by Itano (2022).
