Xenodus was named by Miller (1892) [Sepkoski's age data: teeth]. It is not extant. Its type is Goniodus hertzeri.
It was assigned to Cochliodontidae by Hay (1902), Jordan (1963); and to Holocephali by Sepkoski (2002).
