Harriotta was named by Goode and Bean (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Rhinochimaeridae by Jordan (1963), Werdelin (1986); and to Chimaeriformes by Sepkoski (2002).
