Taxonomy
Tanaodus was named by St. John and Worthen (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: C l C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 451]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Janassidae by Jordan (1963); to Petalodontida by Zangerl (1981); to Chondrichthyes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Petalodontidae by Hay (1902), Ginter et al. (2010).
