Taxonomy
Cynodictis leptorhynchus was named by Filhol (1874). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Itardies, which is in a MP 23 terrestrial phosphorite in France.
It was recombined as Cynodon leptorhynchus by Schlosser (1888); it was recombined as Cynotherium leptorhynchum by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Paracynodon leptorhynchus by Schlosser (1899); it was recombined as Amphicynodon leptorhynchus by Cirot and de Bonis (1992).
