Taxonomy
Apterodon rauenbergensis was named by Frey et al. (2010). Its type specimen is SMNK PAL 6524, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Frauenweiler, which is in a Rupelian estuary/bay claystone in Germany.
