Rhinodipterus was named by Gross (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: D m D u]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Rhinodipteridae.
It was assigned to Dipnoi by Miles (1977); to Dipteriformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Rhinodipteridae by Campbell and Barwick (1990), Clement (2012); and to Dipteridae by Krupina (1995), van der Laan (2019).
