Rhinodipterus was named by Gross (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: D m D u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dipnoi by Miles (1977); to Dipteridae by Krupina (1995); to Dipteriformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhinodipteridae by Campbell and Barwick (1990), Clement (2012).
