Bellerophon munsteri was named by de Ferrusac and d'Orbigny (1840) [Bellerophon Münsteri d'Orbigny in de Ferrusac & d'Orbigny 1840 = Bellerophon hiulcus de Koninck, 1843 {pars), p. 348. = Bellerophon hiulcus d'Orbigny, 1850 (pars), p. 126. = Bellerophon hiulcus Bayle, 1878, pi. cii, figs. 7-9.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Waagenella muensteri by Wagner (2023).
