Sargodon was named by Plieninger (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 863]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Semionotidae by Tintori (1983); and to Semionotiformes by Sepkoski (2002).
