Allolepidotus was named by Deecke (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr m Tr u]. It is not extant. Its type is Pholidophorus rueppelli.
It was assigned to Eugnathidae by Woodward (1895); to Semionotidae by Cartanyà (1999); to Amiiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Panxianichthyidae by Sun et al. (2016); to Subortichthyidae by Feng et al. (2023); and to Halecomorphi by López-Arbarello and Brocke (2024).
