Leedsichthys was named by Woodward (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call-m J Oxfo]. It is not extant. Its type is Leedsichthys problematicus.
It was assigned to Amiiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Pachycormidae by Friedman et al. (2010); and to Asthenocorminae by Cooper et al. (2022).
