Bannikovichthys paelignus

Specific name: paelignus, from Paeligni, ancient people of central Italy, whose territory included the type locality.
Taxonomy
Bannikovichthys paelignus was named by Carnevale (2007). Its type specimen is MSNTC PEL 053, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Torricella Peligna, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in Italy. It is the type species of Bannikovichthys.
