Taxonomy
Hypsocormus was named by Wagner (1863) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call J Tith-u Sepkoski's reference number: 452,915]. It is not extant. Its type is Hypsocormus insignis. It is the type genus of Hypsocorminae.

It was assigned to Pachycormiformes by Rayner (1948), Sepkoski (2002); to Pachycormidae by Woodward (1895), Friedman et al. (2010), Maxwell et al. (2020); and to Hypsocorminae by Cooper et al. (2022).
