Taxonomy
Strophonella prolongata was named by Foerste (1909).

It was recombined as Amphistrophia prolongata by Amsden (1968); it was recombined as Amsdenostrophiella prolongata by Harper and Boucot (1978); it was recombined as Amphistrophiella (Amsdenostrophiella) prolongata by Frest et al. (1999); it was recombined as Amphistrophia (Amphistrophiella) prolongata by Williams et al. (2000).
