Oxyrhina gracilis was named by Le Hon (1871).

It was recombined as Isurolamna gracilis by Gille et al. (2010), Cappetta et al. (2016), Everaert et al. (2019).

Otodus rupeliensis was named by Le Hon (1871).

It was recombined as Lamna rupeliensis by Leriche (1926), Weiler (1938), Ciobanu (1977), Nolf (1988); it was recombined as Lamiostoma rupeliensis by Zhelezko and Kozlov (1999); it was recombined as Rhizoquadrangulus rupeliensis by Baut and Génault (1999); it was synonymized subjectively with Isurolamna gracilis by Gille et al. (2010), Cappetta et al. (2016).
