Taxonomy
Ostrea semiplana was named by Sowerby (1825).

It was recombined as Lopha (Lopha) semiplana by Reyment (1955), Bobkova (1961); it was recombined as Lopha semiplana by Barber (1958); it was recombined as Hyotissa semipiana by Dhondt and Jagt (1987); it was recombined as Hyotissa semiplana by Gruendel (1982), Freneix and Odin (2001).
