Fischer von Waldheim 1829 in Eichwald 1829 West (2015 Treatise: p. 19) concludes that "the fossil genus Chaetetes is treated here as a form genus and its constituent subgenera and species also have the status of form taxa."

Chaetetes was named by Fischer von Waldheim (1829) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg-l P]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Chaetetes radians.
