Hibernodonta praeco was named by Harper et al. (1985). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Clashford House Fm (Caradoc), Co. Meath, Ireland, which is in a Soudleyan/Marshbrookian transition zone/lower shoreface mudstone in the Clashford House Formation of Ireland.
