Scopeloides was named by Wettstein (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l Sepkoski's reference number: 863]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Actinopterygii by Woodward (1901); to Stomiatidae by Kalabis (1948); to Gonostomidae by Jerzmanska (1968); to Gonostomatidae by Danil'chenko (1960) and Constantin (1999); and to Stomiiformes by Sepkoski (2002).
