Exocoetidae is a family. It is extant.

It was assigned to Synentognathi by Jordan (1963); to Exocoetoidei by Betancur et al. (2013); and to Beloniformes by Carnevale et al. (2014), Bannikov (2014) and Nelson et al. (2016).

Synonyms

Clupea evolans was named by Blainville (1818).

It was recombined as Engraulis evolans by Agassiz (1835), Agassiz (1843) and Agassiz (1843); it was considered a nomen dubium by Carnevale et al. (2014).
