Taxonomy
Plesiosteiromys newelli was named by Boivin et al. (2017). Its type specimen is MUSM 2893, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CTA-61, which is in an Oligocene channel conglomerate in the Chambira Formation of Peru. It is the type species of Plesiosteiromys.
