Diademaproetus was named by Alberti (1964).

It was reranked as Cornuproetus (Diademaproetus) by Basse (1997).

It was assigned to Cornuproetus by Basse (1997); to Tropidocoryphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Cornuproetinae by Van Viersen et al. (2019), Bault et al. (2021).
