Taxonomy
Cyphaspis bowningenis was named by Mitchell (1888). Its type specimen is A. M. f. 28356 [lectotype chosen by Chatterton 1971], a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Otarion (Otarion) bowningenis by Chatterton (1971).
