Absalomichthys was named by Whitley (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Caristiidae by David (1943), Fierstine et al. (2012).
