Ambozoniinae was named by Kues and Batten (2001) [Attributed to Batten (1972), but Roger does not create the subfamily there. In later papers, he puts it in other taxa.]. Its type is Ambozone.

It was assigned to Eotomariidae by Kues and Batten (2001).
