Taxonomy
Lichas (Euarges) mephisto was named by Richter and Richter (1918). It is not extant. It is the type species of Acanthopyge (Mephiarges).

It was recombined as Acanthopyge (Mephiarges) mephisto by Edgell (1955); it was recombined as Mephiarges mephisto by Thomas and Holloway (1988), Jell and Adrain (2002).
