Trionyx silvestris was named by Walker and Moody (1974). Its type specimen is BMNH R 8567, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Abbey Wood, which is in a Ypresian marine sandstone in the Blackheath Beds Formation of the United Kingdom.
