Taxonomy
Pachymagas ellipticus was named by Thomson (1918). Its type specimen is NMNZ Br1268, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Waiparia.
It was recombined as Waiparia elliptica by MacKinnon et al. (1993).
