Ceratites reitzi was named by Boeckh (1875).

It was recombined as Trachyceras reitzi by von Mojsisovics (1882); it was recombined as Protrachyceras reitzi by Bando (1964); it was recombined as Xenoprotrachyceras reitzi by Wang (1983), Vörös and Pálfy (1989); it was recombined as Nevadites reitzi by Brack and Rieber (1986); it was recombined as Reitziites reitzi by Brack and Rieber (1993), Vörös (2018).
