Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. M. Jacquet and G. A. Brock 2016Patelliform univalve, shell narrowest near the apical margin, with pyriform to ovoid outline. Width to length ratio between 0.58 and 0.98 (average 0.74, n = 17), with maximum length 24.8 mm and width 14.5mm. Profile moderate in most complete, uncompressed specimens (maximum H:L ratio of 0.68). Blunt apex, located approximately 3/4 sagittally from the supra-apical margin and is sheared off in most specimens. In lateral profile, supra-apical surface is evenly and gently convex, sub-apical surface is short and steeply convex with slope at approximately 45° between the apex and sub-apical margin. First order concentric ornament consists of up to 12 angular grooved rugae; on the broad supra-apical surface each ruga forms a relatively high amplitude concentric ridge with either a flat ledge or a steep exterior face adjacent to a shallow narrow groove. On sub-apical and lateral surfaces, rugae form more vertical grooved faces. Bifurcating rugae are common due to the rapid expansion of the supra-apical surface. Fine scale radial ornament is present in well preserved specimens and forms very narrow (b40 μm wide) regularly spaced (approximately 6 per millimetre in apertural rugae) lirae along the face of the concentric rugae, and can appear wrinkle-like in taphonomically altered forms. Internal muscle scars unknown.
