Clarazia was named by Peyer (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Claraziidae.
It was assigned to Claraziidae by Kuhn (1966), Carroll (1988); to Thalattosauria by Sepkoski (2002); to Thalattosauridae by Nicholls (1999), Müller (2007); and to Thalattosauroidea by Wu et al. (2009).
