Hescheleria was named by Peyer (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Claraziidae by Kuhn (1966); to Thalattosauria by Nicholls (1999) and Sepkoski (2002); to Thalattosauridae by Müller (2007); and to Thalattosauroidea by Wu et al. (2009).
