Taxonomy

Chitra chitra was named by Nutaphand (1986). It is extant.

Synonyms

Chitra selenkae was named by Jaekel (1911). Its type specimen is MB R2495.1-3 (syntypes), a partial skeleton (scapula, a right xiphiplastron, and a clavicle), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Trinil, which is in a Calabrian/Chibanian terrestrial horizon in Indonesia.

It was replaced with Chitra chitra by International Commision Zoological Nomenclature (2005).
