Taxonomy
Argillochelys athersuchi was named by Moody (1980). Its type specimen is K.P. BA/19/V A&B, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barton Cliff, which is in a Bartonian marine claystone in the Barton Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Eochelone athersuchi by de Lapparent de Broin et al. (2018).
