Eriphyla lapidis

Taxonomy
Astarte lapidis was named by Packard (1922). Its type specimen is UCMP 12285 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 2135, Santa Ana Mountains, which is in a Campanian marine horizon in the Williams Formation of California.

It was recombined as Eriphyla lapidis by Popenoe (1937), Anderson (1958).

E. L. Packard 1922Shell small, nearly circular in outline, slightly inequilateral; rather tumid. Anterior dorsal margin concave, set off by an ill-defined lunule; anterior end and base rounded, forming nearly a segment of a circle; posterior dorsal margin convex, meeting the even curve of the base and the posterior end at a point about halfway to the ventral margin. Beaks in conspicuous, pointed. Shell thick, ornamented by rough lines of growth. Hinge plate heavy with a prominent, anterior, cardinal tooth. Length of type, 20 mm.; height, 20 mm.; convexity, 8 mm.
