Taxonomy
Anacharsis was named by Bogachev (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 746]. It is not extant. Its type is Anacharsis orbus. It was considered monophyletic by Mchedlidze (1964).

It was assigned to Delphinidae by Bogachev (1956), Mchedlidze (1964), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997); to Cetacea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Delphinida by Murakami et al. (2014).
