Taxonomy
Falco chrysaetos was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type species of Aquila.
It was misspelled as Aquila chrysaetus by Boule and De Villeneuve (1927) and Zelenkov et al. (2008); it was recombined as Aquila chrysaetos by Hay (1902), Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942), Howard (1955), Wetmore (1956), Parmalee (1958), Howard (1963), Howard (1969), Weesie (1988), Mlikovsky (2002), Bedetti and Pavia (2007), Steadman and Mead (2010), Clements et al. (2017) and Carrera et al. (2018).
