Taxonomy
Morphnus daggetti was named by Miller (1915).

It was recombined as Wetmoregyps daggetti by Hay (1930), Howard (1932), Lambrecht (1933), Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942) and Wetmore (1956); it was recombined as Buteogallus (Wetmoregyps) daggetti by Steadman and Mead (2010).
