Corvus nuttalli was named by Audubon (1837). It is extant.

It was recombined as Pica nuttallii by Miller (1929), Wetmore (1956); it was misspelled as Pica nutallii by Wetmore (1940); it was recombined as Pica nuttalli by Miller and DeMay (1942), Clements et al. (2017).
