Taxonomy

Archegosaurus was named by Goldfuss (1847). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Labyrinthodontes by Roemer (1856); to Ganocephala by Owen (1859), Owen (1860) and Owen (1861); to Archegosaurinae by Schoch and Milner (2000); to Archegosauridae by Watson (1919), Carroll (1988), Gubin (1997), Yates and Warren (2000) and Witzmann (2005); and to Stereospondylomorpha by Schoch (2013).

Synonyms

Memonomenos was named by Steen (1938). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Archegosaurus by Milner (1978).

It was assigned to Eogyrinidae by Panchen (1970).
