Taxonomy

Bomburodon was named by Williamson and Carr (2012). Its type is Ellipsodon priscus.

It was assigned to Mioclaenidae by Lloyd and Slater (2020).

Synonyms

Bomburia was named by Van Valen (1978). It is not extant. Its type is Ellipsodon priscus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ellipsodon by Cifelli (1983), Carroll (1988) and Hunter (1997); it was replaced with Bomburodon by Williamson and Carr (2012).

It was assigned to Mioclaenidae by Van Valen (1978), Williamson and Lucas (1993), Williamson (1996), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Williamson and Carr (2007); and to Mioclaeninae by Zack et al. (2005) and Halliday et al. (2017).
Platymastus was named by Van Valen (1978). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Bomburia by Williamson and Carr (2007).

It was assigned to Mesonychidae by Van Valen (1978); and to Cete by Archibald (1998).
