Taxonomy
Megapodius alimentum was named by Steadman (1989). Its type specimen is BPBM 165686, a set of limb elements (distal end of tibiotarsus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tongoleleka site, layer IV, Lifuka, which is in a Holocene terrestrial horizon in Tonga.
