Taxonomy
Nycticorax olsoni was named by Bourne et al. (2003). Its type specimen is NHMRN S/1999.1.1, a set of limb elements (right femur), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chapel Grotto, Ascension, which is in a Holocene cave horizon in Saint Helena.
