Taxonomy
Nyctanassa carcinocatactes was named by Olson and Wingate (2006). Its type specimen is USNM 326181, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Devil's Sinkhole, which is in a Holocene cave siliciclastic in Bermuda.
