Ostodolepidae was named by Romer (1945). It is not extant. It was considered paraphyletic by Huttenlocker et al. (2013).
It was assigned to Tuditanomorpha by Carroll and Gaskill (1978), Carroll (1988) and Carroll et al. (1998); and to Recumbirostra by Huttenlocker et al. (2013).
